How Prescriptions Work on GeraClinic

Secure digital prescriptions issued after your consultation — downloadable, shareable, and accepted at pharmacies worldwide.

How prescriptions are issued

After your consultation, your GeraClinic doctor reviews their clinical notes and determines if medication is appropriate. If so, they issue a digital prescription — typically within 1 hour of the consultation ending.

GeraClinic prescriptions are:

  • Digitally signed with the doctor's verified medical credentials
  • Assigned a unique prescription reference number for pharmacy verification
  • Encrypted and stored securely in your health records
  • Available as a PDF download and as a scannable QR code
  • Sent to your email as a backup notification

Important: GeraClinic doctors cannot prescribe controlled substances, opioids, or Schedule I/II medications via telemedicine. For these, an in-person consultation with your local physician is required.

How to download your prescription

  1. 1Log in to your GeraClinic account.
  2. 2Go to your Dashboard → Prescriptions.
  3. 3Find the prescription you need (listed by date and medication).
  4. 4Tap "Download PDF" to save it to your device, or "Show QR Code" to display it on screen for a pharmacist to scan.
  5. 5You can also tap "Send to Email" to have it sent to your registered email address.

This table is updated regularly. If your country is not listed, contact support — we can advise on local acceptance and alternative options.

Prescription expiry

Most GeraClinic prescriptions are valid for 6 months from the date of issue. The exact expiry date is printed on the prescription PDF and QR code.

Some medications have shorter validity periods by law (e.g. antibiotics may be valid for 30 days in some jurisdictions). Your prescription will clearly state the applicable validity period.

After a prescription expires, you will need a new consultation to get a fresh prescription. Pharmacies will not dispense against an expired prescription.

Repeat prescriptions

For ongoing conditions requiring the same medication long-term (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, thyroid conditions), GeraClinic supports repeat prescriptions via follow-up consultations.

1

Book a follow-up

Find your original doctor on GeraClinic and book a follow-up consultation. Mention "repeat prescription" in the booking notes.

2

Review in the consultation

The doctor will review your response to the current medication, check for side effects, and update dosage if needed.

3

Receive the new prescription

A new prescription is issued and stored in your records. Some chronic conditions qualify for 3-month supply prescriptions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a prescription on my first GeraClinic consultation?
Yes, if the doctor determines it is clinically appropriate after reviewing your symptoms and medical history. GeraClinic doctors follow the same prescribing standards as in-person physicians. Controlled substances and Schedule I/II drugs cannot be prescribed via telemedicine on GeraClinic.
What happens if my pharmacy does not accept a digital prescription?
You can print the PDF prescription — most pharmacies that accept printed prescriptions will accept it. If your pharmacist still refuses, contact GeraClinic support and we will contact your doctor to issue the prescription in whatever format your local pharmacy requires.
How long is a GeraClinic prescription valid?
Prescriptions are typically valid for 6 months from the date of issue, unless the doctor specifies a shorter validity period on the prescription itself. After 6 months, a new consultation is required for the same medication.
Can a doctor abroad prescribe medication in my country?
This depends on the country pair. GeraClinic shows doctors whose prescriptions are valid in your jurisdiction. When you search for doctors, we filter for those licensed to prescribe in your country by default. You can expand the filter to see doctors from other countries, but acceptance at local pharmacies is not guaranteed.
How do I get a repeat prescription?
Book a follow-up consultation with the same doctor (or any GeraClinic doctor for the same condition). In the follow-up, let the doctor know you need a repeat prescription. The doctor will review your response to the current medication and, if appropriate, issue a repeat. Some chronic conditions qualify for extended prescriptions covering 3 months of supply.
Are my prescriptions stored on GeraClinic?
Yes. All prescriptions issued on GeraClinic are stored in your Medical Records for 7 years, as required by medical data retention standards. You can access, download, or share any prescription at any time from your dashboard.
