Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about online healthcare with GeraClinic

How do I book an online doctor consultation on GeraClinic?

Search for a doctor by specialty, language, or availability. Click "Book Consultation" and choose a video, audio, or chat appointment. You'll receive a confirmation with a secure link. Most doctors are available within 30 minutes for urgent consultations.

Can GeraClinic doctors issue prescriptions?

Yes. Licensed doctors on GeraClinic can issue digital prescriptions valid in your country. After your consultation, the prescription is sent to your preferred pharmacy or delivered to your door via our partner pharmacies in supported regions.

How do I get a specialist referral?

Your GeraClinic GP can issue a specialist referral during or after your consultation. Referrals are issued digitally and forwarded directly to the specialist's clinic. You can also book specialist consultations directly on GeraClinic without a referral in most countries.

Is my medical data kept private and secure?

Absolutely. GeraClinic is HIPAA-equivalent and GDPR compliant. All consultations are end-to-end encrypted. Your data is never sold to third parties. You control who accesses your records — you can share them with other doctors on the platform or export them at any time.

Does GeraClinic work with my health insurance?

GeraClinic works with major health insurance providers in each country. Enter your insurance details in your profile and eligible consultations will be billed directly to your insurer. We also offer affordable self-pay rates starting from 10 per consultation.

How much does a consultation cost?

Consultation fees vary by doctor, specialty, and country. General practitioner consultations start from 10, and specialist consultations from 25. All prices are shown upfront before you book. There are no hidden fees.

What happens in a medical emergency?

GeraClinic is not a substitute for emergency services. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call your local emergency number immediately. Our platform is designed for non-emergency consultations, follow-ups, chronic condition management, and second opinions.

Can I access my medical history and past consultations?

Yes. Your full medical history, consultation notes, lab results, and prescriptions are stored securely in your GeraClinic health record. You can access them anytime from the app or web, and share them with any doctor inside or outside the platform.

Are doctors on GeraClinic verified and licensed?

Every doctor on GeraClinic is manually verified before they can practice on the platform. We check medical licenses, board certifications, and professional standing in their country of registration. Ratings and reviews from real patients are visible on every profile.

What are GeraCoins and how do I earn them on GeraClinic?

GeraCoins are Gera's loyalty currency. You earn coins for completing your health profile, attending consultations, and writing reviews. Redeem coins for discounts on future consultations or other Gera services like GeraRent or GeraEats.

How do I sign up for GeraClinic?

Sign up in under 60 seconds with an email and password. We then ask for your date of birth and country so we can match you with licensed doctors in your region. A brief health profile (allergies, chronic conditions, current medications) helps your doctor prepare — you can fill it in at any time.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. Creating an account, maintaining your medical record, accessing past consultation notes, and messaging doctors for follow-up questions are all free. You only pay per consultation when you book one. Gera Prime members receive unlimited free GP consultations as part of their subscription — see our full guide at /blog/gera-prime-healthcare.

Do I need to verify my identity to book a consultation?

Yes for prescription-level consultations — we verify government-issued ID via a quick camera scan. For general health questions, triage, and second opinions, no verification is required. Identity verification takes under 2 minutes and is handled by a certified KYC provider compliant with local medical regulations.

What data does GeraClinic collect about me?

We collect account basics (name, email, date of birth, country), your health profile and consultation notes, billing records, and the technical metadata needed to run the service (IP, device type, session logs). We never sell data to third parties or advertisers. Full details in our Privacy Policy at /privacy.

Where is my medical data stored?

Medical records are stored encrypted at rest on EU-based infrastructure (Neon Postgres, Frankfurt region). Consultation video streams are end-to-end encrypted and never recorded unless you explicitly request a copy. Backups are geographically redundant across at least two EU regions. Non-EU users can request data residency in their region where available.

How do I delete my GeraClinic account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. We soft-delete immediately (no new logins possible) and hard-delete all personal data within 30 days. Medical records required by local law (in some countries doctors must retain patient records for 7+ years) are archived anonymised or kept with the attending doctor per regulation, not with GeraClinic.

Is GeraClinic GDPR compliant?

Yes. GeraClinic is fully GDPR compliant, with a designated Data Protection Officer, lawful basis documented for every processing activity (Article 6 + Article 9 for health data), and full support for your rights of access, rectification, erasure, and portability. Submit requests to privacy@geraclinic.com and we respond within 30 days.

Do you sell my data?

No. We have never sold user data and our Terms of Service legally prohibit it. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, insurers (unless you explicitly authorise a claims submission), or AI training providers. Our revenue comes only from consultation fees and Gera Prime subscriptions.

What is the refund policy?

If your consultation does not happen due to a technical issue on our side or the doctor not showing up, you receive a full refund automatically within 24 hours. If you cancel more than 30 minutes before your slot, you receive a full refund. Cancellations within 30 minutes are non-refundable (the doctor's time is already reserved). Refunds for quality concerns are handled case-by-case via support.

What if I disagree with a doctor's diagnosis or treatment?

You can request a free second opinion from another GeraClinic doctor within 14 days of your consultation. If you believe there was a clinical error, you can file a formal complaint via Settings → Report Consultation — our Medical Quality Team (all practising physicians) reviews every complaint within 5 business days and issues written findings.

Which countries is GeraClinic available in?

GeraClinic operates in 50+ countries across Europe, the UK, the Caucasus, MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Availability of prescriptions depends on local medical licensing rules. Triage, second opinions, and non-prescription advice are available globally. Check full country list at /countries.

Which languages do GeraClinic doctors speak?

Our doctor network collectively speaks 30+ languages including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, Turkish, Russian, Armenian, Georgian, Swahili, Urdu, Mandarin, Farsi, and more. You can filter doctors by the language you want to consult in. Real-time translation is available for languages not covered by any doctor on shift.

Do you support my local currency?

Yes. Prices are displayed in your local currency in 50+ countries including GBP, USD, EUR, AMD, GEL, KES, NGN, UGX, GHS, INR, TRY, BRL, PHP, IDR, MXN, and more. Payments are settled via local payment rails where available (Idram in Armenia, M-Pesa in Kenya, UPI in India, PIX in Brazil) or by international card.

Is there a GeraClinic API for healthcare integrations?

Yes. We offer a REST API and FHIR-compatible endpoint for healthcare providers, insurers, and employer health programmes that want to integrate with GeraClinic. API access requires a partnership agreement. We also expose an MCP server so AI agents can book consultations on a user's behalf with scoped consent. Documentation at /developers.

Can AI agents book consultations for me?

Yes. Via GeraNexus (our agentic commerce protocol) and the GeraClinic MCP server, an AI assistant you authorise can book, reschedule, and pay for consultations within spending limits you set. Every agent-initiated booking triggers a GeraWitness review if it exceeds your configured threshold. You retain full control via your Gera account.

Is GeraClinic secure?

Yes. All traffic uses TLS 1.3; data is AES-256 encrypted at rest; consultation streams are end-to-end encrypted. We run continuous automated security scans (OWASP Top 10 coverage) and pay external researchers via a vulnerability disclosure programme. We are HIPAA-equivalent and aligned with ISO 27001 practices.

Do you support two-factor authentication (2FA)?

Yes. We support TOTP (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password), hardware security keys (FIDO2/WebAuthn), and SMS backup (deprioritised but supported in regions with low smartphone penetration). Enable 2FA under Settings → Security. Accounts with prescribing-level access are required to have 2FA on by default.

How do you prevent prescription fraud and doctor impersonation?

Every doctor is manually verified against national medical registers before activation. Prescriptions are digitally signed with a doctor-specific key and verifiable on our public prescription-check page. We also monitor prescribing patterns in real time — unusual volumes trigger clinical review. No doctor can issue prescriptions outside their verified licence jurisdiction.

How does GeraClinic work with other Gera products?

Your Gera account unifies GeraClinic with GeraEats (nutritional advice from a GeraClinic dietitian suggests meals via GeraEats), GeraHome (doctor-approved home-care referrals), GeraRent (tenant health references where permitted), and GeraLearn (health literacy courses). GeraCoins earned in any Gera product can pay for a GeraClinic consultation.

Can I use my GeraCoins to pay for a consultation?

Yes. At checkout, you can apply GeraCoins from your unified Gera wallet — 100 coins = £1 off. You can cover up to 100% of the consultation cost with coins if your balance is high enough. Coins earned from any Gera service (GeraEats orders, GeraLearn courses, GeraRide trips) all count.

Is Gera Prime required to use GeraClinic?

No. GeraClinic works fully on a pay-per-consultation basis without any subscription. Gera Prime is optional and gives you unlimited free GP consultations, priority booking, and discounts on specialists — but every feature of GeraClinic is available to non-Prime users. See our Prime breakdown at /blog/is-gera-prime-worth-it.
