Country pathway β€” information only

UK registration for dentists qualified in Egypt

Egypt is one of the larger sources of internationally-qualified dentists who explore UK registration each year. This page is neutral information about how the pathway works for an Egyptian graduate β€” not a job advert, and not a recruitment offer.

An Egyptian-qualified dentist normally reaches the UK GDC register by passing the ORE (or the LDS), not by direct recognition. The sequence is: evidence English (typically IELTS Academic 7), pass ORE Part 1, pass the practical Part 2 in the UK within five years of your first Part 1 attempt, then apply to the GDC to register. Registration is the right to practise; a job is a separate step you arrange yourself. As of July 2026.

Why an Egyptian degree usually means the ORE or LDS

Egyptian dental schools award a five-year Bachelor of Dentistry (often styled BDS or B.D.S.), and Egyptian graduates are a well-established presence across Gulf and international dentistry. For UK purposes, though, the deciding question is not the standard of the programme but whether the GDC lists the specific qualification as recognised for direct registration. In general, Egyptian dental degrees are not on that list, which means the route for most graduates is a UK qualifying examination β€” the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) or the Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS). This is the same route most internationally-qualified dentists take; it is not specific to Egypt.

A permitted, individual-choice pathway

Egypt is not on the UK Code of Practice list or the WHO 2023 Health Workforce Support and Safeguards List, so there is no ethical-recruitment restriction on an Egyptian dentist choosing to research and pursue UK registration independently. That said, GeraClinic’s position is the same everywhere: we do not recruit, we do not place candidates, and we do not advertise UK vacancies in Egypt or anywhere else. What follows is information, so that a dentist deciding for themselves can plan realistically.

English first β€” even if you trained in English

Some Egyptian dental programmes are taught partly or wholly in English, and it is tempting to assume that settles the language question. It does not, by itself: the GDC requires formal evidence, and the established benchmark is IELTS (Academic) 7 overall with no less than 6.5 in each component, or an accepted alternative such as the OET. Sort this out before anything else β€” it is the first hurdle, and the BDA is explicit that you should not apply to the GDC without it.

Documents that take time from Egypt

The paperwork is where overseas applicants most often lose weeks. Expect to arrange certified copies of your dental certificate and transcripts, a valid passport for identity verification, evidence of clinical experience, and a recent Certificate of Current Professional Status (usually no older than three months when the GDC receives it), plus a character reference. Certification must be done by an approved person β€” a notary, commissioner of oaths, solicitor or embassy official. Getting these right the first time is the single biggest thing within your control, because the GDC only begins its assessment once your application is complete.

Budget honestly

The ORE is a significant financial commitment, and Part 2 must be sat in the UK, so a realistic budget for a dentist based in Egypt includes exam fees, English testing, document certification and translation, UK travel and accommodation for Part 2, and the GDC application and ongoing registration fees. Our ORE pathway page lists the 2026 fees, and the UK dentist pay page is honest about the reward at the other end β€” including why most NHS associate income is self-employed and net-of-costs rather than a salary.

What GeraClinic is β€” and is not

To be completely clear: GeraClinic does not recruit, source or place dentists, does not advertise UK vacancies to people in Egypt, and never charges an applicant a placement or introduction fee. This page exists because Egyptian graduates search for accurate, non-salesy information about the UK pathway, and honest information is what we provide. Any decision to pursue registration, and any application to a specific job once registered, is entirely your own and made directly with the GDC and with employers.

Which route is likely to apply to you?

Answer two questions for an indicative pointer. This is general information, not an eligibility decision β€” only the GDC decides.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Egyptian-qualified dentist register with the GDC?

Yes. An Egyptian dental degree is generally not on the GDC’s recognised list, so an Egyptian-qualified dentist normally reaches the UK register by passing the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) or the Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS), after first evidencing English. Registration is granted by the GDC on its own criteria.

Is Egypt on the UK ethical-recruitment red or amber list?

No. Egypt is not on the UK Code of Practice or the WHO 2023 Health Workforce Support and Safeguards List, so a dentist in Egypt researching the UK pathway is doing so as an individual choice. GeraClinic still does not recruit, place or advertise vacancies in any country β€” this page is neutral information only.

What English score do Egyptian dentists need?

The established benchmark is IELTS (Academic) 7 overall with no less than 6.5 in each component, with the OET accepted as an alternative. Even where dental training was delivered in English, plan to evidence it β€” the BDA advises not applying to the GDC without it.

Does GeraClinic recruit dentists from Egypt?

No. GeraClinic is not a recruitment agency, does not source or place dentists, does not market UK vacancies in Egypt, and never charges an applicant a fee. This page is neutral educational information for people researching the pathway themselves.
