Only cities with 2 or more such hospitals get a page, so every page compares real alternatives. As of April 2026.
- Where does the hospital data come from?
- Every rating is from the CMS Hospital Care Compare "Hospital General Information" dataset (identifier xubh-q36u), published by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) β a U.S. federal government work in the public domain. No figure is estimated or fabricated.
- Why is my city not listed?
- A city only appears if it has at least 2 hospitals rated 4 or 5 stars by CMS in the April 2026 dataset. Cities with one or zero top-rated hospitals are intentionally excluded to avoid thin comparisons. You can still find any single hospital in the per-hospital US Hospital Quality Index, or browse your whole state.
