The GMC route for Saudi-based doctors
Saudi-based doctors register with the GMC via the PLAB examination or a recognised postgraduate qualification, based on the GMC’s assessment of their primary qualification.
Doctors in Saudi Arabia are licensed by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). Many hold the Saudi Board or UK Royal College qualifications obtained during training. The GMC bases your registration route on your primary medical qualification, so identify your qualifying country and any postgraduate qualifications first.
If you hold a recognised postgraduate qualification such as MRCP(UK), MRCS, or MRCOG, you may be able to register without the PLAB examination. Doctors without such a qualification are usually directed to PLAB — confirm your route with the GMC.
