Country FAQ
Is GeraClinic an NHS service?
No. GeraClinic is a private platform. All consultations booked through GeraClinic are private-pay in GBP and are not covered by the National Health Service. Patients who need NHS care should contact their NHS GP, NHS 111, or NHS 999 in an emergency. GeraClinic does not replace NHS or emergency services.
Who is responsible for the clinical care I receive?
The independently registered clinician you book with is responsible for the clinical care provided. UK doctors are regulated by the General Medical Council (GMC) and other professionals are regulated by the relevant statutory body (NMC for nurses, GPhC for pharmacists, HCPC for allied health professionals). GeraClinic operates the booking and payment platform; it does not provide clinical advice and is not a registered medical practice.
Are private clinics on GeraClinic registered with the CQC?
Private clinics providing regulated activities in England are required to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. Clinics in Scotland are regulated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, in Wales by Health Inspectorate Wales, and in Northern Ireland by RQIA. Verified providers on GeraClinic display their registration status; patients are advised to confirm regulator registration before booking.
How is patient data handled under UK GDPR?
Patient personal data and consultation records are processed under the UK Data Protection Act 2018. GeraClinic acts as the platform data processor on behalf of the clinician or clinic, who is the data controller for the clinical record. Patients can request access, rectification, or erasure under Article 15-17 UK GDPR via the in-app privacy portal. Special-category data is encrypted at rest and in transit and retained per the clinician's professional record-keeping obligations (typically 8 years for adult records).
How do payments and refunds work in the UK?
All UK consultations are charged in GBP via Stripe UK. The clinician sets their own fee; GeraClinic does not set medical pricing. Standard cancellation is 24 hours before the appointment for a full refund; cancellations within 24 hours follow the clinician's published policy. Disputes are handled via the platform's resolution process; chargeback rights under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 may also apply for card payments over Β£100.
Can GeraClinic issue UK private prescriptions?
Only a registered clinician licensed to prescribe in the UK can issue a private prescription. If a clinician you consult through GeraClinic considers a private prescription clinically appropriate, they issue it themselves under their own professional registration. Prescriptions are sent to UK-registered pharmacies (regulated by the GPhC); GeraClinic does not stock or dispense medicines.
Is GeraClinic suitable for urgent or emergency care?
No. GeraClinic is not an emergency service and must not be used for life-threatening symptoms, severe injury, or mental health crisis. In an emergency in the UK call 999. For urgent non-emergency care, call NHS 111 (England, Scotland, Wales) or 111 (Northern Ireland). GeraClinic appointments are scheduled and not suitable for immediate response.
Does GeraClinic work with employer health benefits?
Yes. UK employers can be invoiced for staff consultations through a corporate billing arrangement with Gera Services Ltd. Employees book in the usual way and the cost is reconciled against the employer's monthly invoice (GBP, VAT-applicable where the employer is UK-registered). Employer-funded consultations remain confidential between patient and clinician; GeraClinic shares only the fact-of-appointment and cost with the employer, not clinical details.
