GeraClinic · Telemedicine Guide

How online doctor consultations work

An online consultation with a GeraClinic doctor follows the same clinical process as an in-person appointment: you describe your symptoms, the doctor takes a history, examines what they can via video (skin, visible symptoms, movement), and provides a diagnosis, treatment plan, or prescription where appropriate. Consultations are typically 15-20 minutes via secure video call. If the doctor determines your condition requires an in-person examination, they will advise you accordingly.

What conditions are suitable for telemedicine?

Common conditions well-suited to online consultation: respiratory infections (cough, cold, sore throat, mild chest infections), urinary tract infections, skin conditions (rashes, acne, eczema, suspected fungal infections), mental health (anxiety, depression, stress management), repeat prescriptions for stable chronic conditions, travel health advice, and sexual health consultations. Conditions requiring immediate physical examination or diagnostic tests (chest pain, suspected fractures, acute abdominal pain) should be seen in person or at an emergency department.

How to prepare for your online appointment

Before your consultation: find a quiet, private space; have good lighting so the doctor can see you clearly; prepare a list of your symptoms, when they started, and any medications you are currently taking; have any relevant test results or letters from previous doctors to hand; and ensure your device camera and microphone are working. Good preparation means your consultation time is spent on clinical discussion rather than technical setup.
